The aim of the experiment is to find a historically inspired model of warfare that highlights the interdependence of different military arms without forcing an artificial rock-paper-scissors style of balancing. Here, the variation in power, flexibility, cohesion, and deployment schedule of the 4 arms do that naturally. There is plenty of room for adding more detail (ie, choosing between pikemen and halberdiers), extra mechanics (variations based on terrain or the general), and mapping it to other time periods (plausibly from the bronze age to the ACW).
